How fo I reformat a CD-R and a CD-RW discs?

I inevitability to erase absolutely everything on my CD-R and CD-RW discs. It is that possible? I necessitate to use these disks again but there is something already on them. Can I reformat/erase them completely?

The CDRW you can simply delete the files on it. The CD-R is a together nother story, once the write to and close a CD-R it's all over but the cryin'. A multi-session CD-R you can supply to but again once it's on the disk, it's on the disk.
