Don't buy Quad FX. Seriously. Core 2 is better contained by every conceivable way. Search for 'quad fx review' on the internet.
As for IPC, you can't catch a real "number", but you can compare chip family relative to each other.
Core > Athlon 64 > Netburst (Pentium 4)
