How does a Cable Modems use electricity?

It have to... do you see the LEDs? You need power to wispy them up ;-) Kidding.



It's an active device as it have to convert the signals from RJ45 to Coax cable. Active devices include active components such as resisters, capacitors, diodes etc., The power running through the cable flex is not enough to generate them work.
It requires electricity to function, just similar to the human brain and body.
It uses DC (Direct Current), which it converts from AC with an AC adapter (those big tubby plugs). The circuits inside it probably take 5 volts. Almost adjectives computer circuit boards take 5 volts.
