I've see them go up to 8GB. I hold a 400GB external hard drive but it get really annoying to carry it around beside its AC adapter an all. Is at hand a portable device out there that comes anywhere close to the dimensions of an external drive?

What you need is an external HDD that is to say powered by the USB bus. The only problem you will find is that they are not going to approach your 400gb drive-they across the world use laptop drives, so they are in the 60-160 gb span, and will cost you from $75-$175. However, if you can accept the tradeoff, they may work for you. One plus is that because they use 2.5 drives, the overall size is VERY convenient-I'm chitchat about shirt pocket size, roughly 3.5x5.0 and an inch or less glutinous (Think of a thick 3x5 card).
