How do you copy scene from a DVD to your not easy drive as AVI or Mpeg?

I own the copyright to some DVDs and craving to take scene from them to edit together a showreel for myself using Pinnacle or Windows Movie architect. I don't know how to take the scene from DVD format and turn them into AVIs or Mpegs etc. I have a exotic PC with Windows Media Centre and I believe I hold a WIN TV Card or some sort. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

How do you copy scene from a DVD to your not easy drive as AVI or Mpeg?

You first entail to decode or convert the .VOB to .AVI. try Nero or pinnacle to do this.
I've found the easiest and fastest method is to lately hook up a digital video camera or digital video deck and record the scene out of a DVD deck into the camera. Then use your Digital Camera tape as you would any of your home movies and introduction them into the computer firewire or USB. You can even do this without soundtrack directly to tape by have the camera connected to the computer, and a DVD deck connected to the camera, just be sure to turn rotten the Time Code capture, since that signal will not exist. If you find that the Deck won't copy a DVD scene due to copyright protection, you'll hold to make a decrypted magazine of the DVD using DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter-type programs. Another option is to use software that converts DVDs from your computer directly to MPEG-2 or AVI files.... I've found these software programs to be slow, mechanical, and just do a poor brief encoding.
